Museum
At the museum at Birka you can learn more about the exciting history of Vikings through the fascinating exhibitions which depict what day to day life in Birka would have been like during Viking Age. Discover the archaeological findings from the excavations and join a guided tour to really understand this important part of Stockholm’s and Birka’s history.
Viking houses
The Viking houses at Birka are perhaps the most popular attraction. Admire the reconstructed houses built with the same techniques as the Vikings to really bring to life the true atmosphere of life in the Viking age. Walk through the reconstructed Viking village and you’ll be transported back in time to the 700s.

The town of Birka was established in the middle of the 8th century and is considered one of the earliest urban settlements in Scandinavia
Approximately 700 people lived at Birka when it was at its largest population
There are about 17 acres of archaeological remains in the north part of Björkö
