What you'll do
This four-hour cruise will take you through Gothenburg’s main waterways, from its Göta River, to the Björkö Fjord, out through the harbour and into the western coastline. Along the way, you’ll get to experience Sweden’s rich and varied landscape and take in the incredible views.
The boat tour will start in the popular Lilla Bommen, where you’ll also find the Opera House, Viking barque, and other boat tours to Älvsborg Fortress. From here you’ll board the M/S Carl Michael Bellman for a fun-filled four-hour cruise around the ancient island of Hisingen, Sweden’s fifth-largest island and whose first settlements date back to 9000BC.
The boat tour will take you along the winding waterways of Gothenburg’s Göta River, through the Björkö Fjord, bustling harbour, and out into the coast. Here you’ll be able to experience Gothenburg’s stunning scenery from its verdant meadows, rocky cliffs, farmlands and parklands, and much more. Along the way you’ll also pass some of Gothenburg’s most iconic sites and landmarks, too. If the weather is really warm, there’s a sundeck where you can sit out and take in the views while making the most of the fine Swedish summer!
Tour of Hisingen highlights
Göta älv
Was formed at the end of the last glaciation, as an outflow channel from the Baltic Ice Lake to the Atlantic Ocean. It is now the largest drainage basin in Scandinavia.
River Nordre
Pass green meadows, barren cliffs, farmland with grazing cows, and much more.
Björkö Fjord
Björkö is home to a historic shrine written in ancient Germanic referring to something or someone known as 'the one' or 'the harbinger'. The shrine comprises nine stone structures, two are burnt mounds and one is a cairn known as Ingas grav or the grave of Inga. Learn even more celtic tales as you sail between the glacier weathered, steep cliffs on this narrow inlet.
Göteborg Harbour
Sea life and coastal community come together at this beautiful and dynamic harbour.
