What you'll do
Stargazing observatory? Ceremonial centrepiece? Religious relic? Discover the story behind Stonehenge on a half-day coach ride from London.
This prehistoric stone circle has stood on Salisbury Plain for around 5,000 years and is as familiar a part of the British psyche as fish and chips, Paddington Bear, and making small talk about the weather.
You’ll spend two hours exploring the site – plenty of time to snap all those essential Stonehenge selfies. The multilingual audio guide will help you tell your sarsens from your bluestones as well as revealing what Stonehenge has to do with the cycle of the seasons, plus many more tantalising trivia titbits.
Reconstructed Neolithic houses add context and you can see ancient domestic skills – grain-grinding, flint-knapping and rope-making – in action. Don’t miss the visitor centre’s exhibition area, showcasing excavated Stonehenge artifacts including jewellery, pottery, and even the remains of some of our ancient ancestors.
Highlights
Stroll around the stones
You’ll have two hours to wander the perimeter of the stone circle, admiring its vast scale and enjoying the views over the Salisbury Plain from many different angles.
Neolithic knowhow
Find out how our ancestors lived 5,000 years ago and discover the skills they used to live, including grinding grain, making ropes and more.
Visitor Centre gems
A 360-degree audio-visual presentation gives you a sense of what it would feel like to stand right in the middle of the stone circle and there’s an exhibition displaying more than 250 ancient Stonehenge artifacts.
