What you'll do
Come see the evolution of the technologies that transformed life in the modern era at Musée Des Arts Et Métiers (Museum of Arts and Trades). You’ll find inventions and innovations that defined the cutting edge of their time housed in a former gothic church.
Take a chronological journey through the fields of communication, transportation, mechanical engineering, energy production and more. The museum also features exhibits dedicated to mechanical toys, fine porcelains, and beautiful crystal creations by Saint-Louis and Baccarat.
Did you know?
There is a sarcophagus on display at the museum that was discovered during archaeological digs conducted in 1993 and 1994. The museum was formerly the old church of Saint-Martin-des-Champs built upon a priory dating to the Merovingian Era (5th - 8th centuries).
Line 4 of the Paris metro opened to the public in 1908-1909 and was the first to cross the Seine under the river linking the right and left banks. Check out the dozens of photographic slides on glass plates chronicling its construction.
The museum houses a collection of glassware and ceramics of Emile Gallé's whose passion for botany and nature inspired the movement known in France as Art Nouveau.
