- There are around 17,000 known wrecks in Swedish waters, and the Baltic Sea may contain up to 100,000 wrecks in total.
- The Baltic Sea's unique preservation conditions have allowed a huge number of wrecks and other remains to be exceptionally well-preserved.
- In 2021, maritime archaeologists from Vrak – Museum of Wrecks and the Swedish Navy discovered Äpplet, the sister ship of the famous Vasa.
