Gripsholm Castle
Built to be a defending stronghold in 1537, Gripsholm Castle is an imposing historic castle near the beautiful small town Mariefred, on the shores of Lake Mälaren.
What you'll do
Also known as Gustav Vasa’s castle, Gripsholm boasts historic, romantic buildings, a deer paddock and stunning royal grounds in which to roam. Plus, you'll be able to explore the portrait gallery showing 4,000 works of art.
Experience over four hundred years of Swedish history: walk through chambers and passages of this historic castle and see preserved artefacts such as Hertig Karl’s 16th-century chambers and Gustav III’s 18th-century theatre. Grispsholm Castle is also home to the Swedish State’s collection of portraits, with 4,000 different works on show.
