Discover the stories of the first Jewish-Swedish immigrants to the country and how they adjusted to life in Sweden from the 18th Century onwards. Learn how the law decreed how the community lived and behaved and why it stated that Jewish peoples were a nation of their own, making Själagårdsgatan the heart of a kingdom within a kingdom.
Learn about the synagogue and kosher school that was home to a community: from rabbi to the cantor, to the kosher butcher. As you explore, take note of the ritual bath in the basement and the kitchen-baked Passover matzo bread, made for the whole community. Take part in guided tours in English to learn more about the fascinating history surrounding the nation's Jewish heritage.
