Orangerie Museum
Tucked away in a corner of the Tuileries gardens is this gorgeous museum, famous for being home to Monet’s Water Lilies.
What you'll do
Originally constructed as a winter storehouse for Napoleon III’s citrus trees, this beautiful museum is know celebrated for housing 8 works from Monet’s series of Water Lilies painted in his garden in Giverny. He later donated his collection of artworks to the people of France to enjoy in Parisian museums as a commemoration of the end of WWII.
Two contemporary, oval-shaped rooms take up the upper floor of this petite museum and are filled with awe-inspiring works of Water Lilies that pleasingly follow the curve of the room. Below, on the ground floor, you’ll find a warren of rooms dedicated to Impressionist and Modern Classicist pieces by Picasso, Matisse, Modigliani and more.
Attracting over 800,000 visitors a year, the Musée de l’Orangerie is an absolute must-see for any art lover and a memorable stop in the historic heart of the French capital.
