Notre Dame and the Archeological Crypt Experience
Take a journey of ruin, rebirth and remembrance at this French icon and descend into its fascinating crypt deep below.
What you'll do
Paris is full of must-see monuments, and Notre Dame is top of the list This striking cathedral was begun in 1163 and took over a century to complete. Despite the major fire that damaged much of the cathedral in April 2019, its splendor is still very much intact.
Along this walking tour, your guide will take you around the scene of the fire and share first-person perspectives about this historic event. You’ll relive the night when people all over the world watched in horror as the cathedral filled the sky with ash, and hear about what was lost... but also what was saved.
You’ll also get to admire the stunning façade of the building and its incredible exterior architecture, including its legendary gargoyles, before being shown the location of Point Zero. This spot in the heart of the square in front of the cathedral is the ‘geographic center’ of Paris that’s considered a place of good luck. Though you cannot enter the square, for now, you can see it from afar.
Then your guide will lead you to the entrance to the crypt, where, following your guided tour, you will be given access below Notre Dame. You’ll take a self-guided visit to the very foundations of Île de la Cité, the original city of Paris.
